“Grief Walks the Thames” – David Whale

David Whale

Poem

Grief walks with me down the South Bank side,
Where city lights blur in the river’s glide.
The London Eye turns slow and kind,
A clock for thoughts I’ve left behind.

Rain taps gently on Waterloo stone,
Each droplet echoing, I’m not alone.
Pigeons flutter in Trafalgar Square,
While memories rise like breath in air.

In Camden’s hush at break of day,
Your laugh still haunts the market’s way.
And through the fog on Primrose Hill,
Your silence somehow lingers still.

The Tube hums low — a lullaby,
For all the words we said goodbye.
In every corner, lane, and street,
Your shadow waits where past and present meet.

But even here, the daffodils bloom,
In Hyde Park’s green, defying gloom.
And I, though fractured, walk anew,
Through London’s heart — and hold to you.
